Career advice

I read an article in the Berkeley student newspaper today and found it interesting. The title was “Don’t follow your passion, find yourself first” or something to that effect. The message was that one’s passion may not necessarily be aligned with who he/she is. Instead of trying to fit the passion into a job that you are not suited for, it’s better to find a job that you are good at and treat the passion as a hobby.

There are three questions to ask:

  1. What am I good at?
  2. What do other people say that I’m good at? Often times we are blind to our own advantages.
  3. What’s holding me back? Each day there are 10,000s of thoughts that pop into our head, most of them we don’t pay attention to. Start paying attentions to thoughts that are negative and understand why that is.
